Equipment

  • Baking Sheet For baking the pastries
  • Mixing Bowl To prepare the apple filling
  • Pastry Brush For applying the egg wash
  • Knife For peeling and dicing the apples
  • Rolling Pin (optional) For rolling out the puff pastry if needed

Ingredients

  • 2-3 medium Granny Smith apples peeled, cored, and diced
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar For sweetening the filling
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon For flavoring the filling
  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter For cooking the apples
  • 1 pinch salt To balance sweetness
  • 1 egg For egg wash to brush on top of the pastry
  • Puff pastry sheets Store-bought, thawed according to package instructions

Instructions

Prepare the Filling

  • Peel, core, and dice the Granny Smith apples. In a saucepan over medium-low heat, cook the apples with butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, and a pinch of salt. Stir occasionally until apples are soft and caramelized (about 10-15 minutes). Set aside to cool

Prepare the Puff Pastry

  • Thaw the puff pastry according to package instructions. Roll out on a floured surface and cut into squares or circles as desired

Assemble the Pastries

  • Place a spoonful of the apple filling in the center of each pastry shape. Brush the edges with beaten egg, fold the pastry over the filling to form a turnover, and press the edges to seal. Use a fork to crimp the edges

Bake

  • Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Place the pastries on a lined baking sheet, brush the tops with egg wash, and bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown and puffed

Serve

  • Allow the pastries to cool slightly before serving. Optionally, drizzle with caramel sauce or sprinkle with powdered sugar
